Joe Carter got into airbrush his freshman year studying art at what was then Okaloosa Walton Community College. Experimenting with mixed media and airbrush application, along withother studies into Florida State University where he graduated in 1979 with a degree in Studio Art with a focus on Printmaking, Photography and Art History. being from the Panhandle of Florida originally, started airbrushing in the beach shops as a summer job in 1977 and continued in that profession after FSU. Before settling in Key West in 1983, he lived in Las Vegas, St. Thomas, Atlanta, Ft Walton Beach and Destin Florida. He received an Honorable Mention at the first International Airbrush Exposition for a nude bodypainting of a model as a tiger. There was no category for bodypaint at the time. Woodstock 99 put bodypainting on the national radar when festival style bodypainting was covered by every major network, MTV, VH-1, Pay-Per-View and others. The next year Sports Illustrated came out with the Swimsuit Edition. Bodypainting was on the map. In 2001, the Rock n Roll circuit included a run with Ozzfest that spanned 10 years, touring with such groups as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, System of a Down, Disturbed, Ozzy Osborne and Motley Crue to name a few. Mark Rush called him an Airbrushers’ Airbrusher three decades ago. A freehand style based on speed, color impact, smooth flowing lines and an eye for detail with years of experience make Rockstar Airbrush in a league of it’s own. Have gun will travel.
